Tractor MarchTractor March

Report by Prerna Deep:

The center sought an order against the Tractor rally planned by the Farmer protestors on 26th January. Following this, the Supreme Court asked the Delhi Police to take a decision. The entry of protesting farmers into Delhi has to be decided by the Delhi Police as it is a matter of “law and order”, the Supreme Court said today.

A three benched judge committee was set for making a decision. The board headed by CJI Sharad Arvind Bobde gave the liberty to Delhi Police to invoke all the powers under the Law to deal with the situation. They have the power to all the decisions to maintain the “Law and Order” of the country. To this, Attorney General KK Venugopal said ” It is an extraordinary situation and court may pass orders.”

As a reply to this, the bench said “Does the Supreme Court say as to what are the powers of police and how they will exercise them? We are not going to tell you what to do.” The center to this filed an application through Delhi Police saying it will be an embarrassment for the Country if anything like this happens amidst the Republic day Celebration.
