The cold wave reached Delhi just a day before the weather forecast, with temperatures dropping by 1-2 degrees Celsius in Delhi and other areas of northern India.

The minimum temperature has dropped by 1-2 degrees Celsius over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi and 3-5 degrees Celsius over Rajasthan in the last 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
“The lowest minimum temperatures recorded today at 8:30 am are 0.6 degrees Celsius over Churu followed by temperatures of 1.6 degrees Celsius and 2.1 degrees Celsius respectively in Narnaul and Ludhiana,” the IMD further reported in its Monday bulletin.

As of Tuesday, the weather department had previously predicted cold wave conditions in North India. The cold wave is likely to occur in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan from 28-29 December in extreme cold wave conditions.

It said that the western disruption caused the area to increase in temperature, but once it withdraws, the region would be dominated by a cold wave under extreme cold wave conditions.

“The IMD said in its all-India weather bulletin on Sunday, “Fairly common to widespread rainfall/snowfall is very likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh; localized rainfall/snowfall over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and isolated rain/thundershowers over northern parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on 27th-28th December.
