The son of the 50-year-old survivor, who was an Anganwadi worker, reported in the ongoing inquiry into the Badaun gangrape and murder case that ‘Mahant’ Satya Narayan, the local temple priest and the main accused, had been calling his mother since the morning of the incident.
The victim’s son said Satya Narayan had made multiple phone calls to his mother on Sunday, according to a story by the Hindi daily Amar Ujala.
The son said a devout woman was his now-deceased mother. She visited the temple daily to give prayers. She did not return home from the temple on Sunday within the planned time period. Around 11 p.m. later, the priest and his two friends came to their house and handed her body over, saying that it had been discovered in a dry well on the temple grounds.
On Sunday night, the matter came to the fore and a case was reported on Tuesday at the Ughaiti police station after the victim’s post-mortem examination confirmed that she was raped. The incident sparked an opposition uproar and a link with the 2012 Delhi gang-rape and murder case, also known as the Nirbhaya case, as a fractured rib cage, a broken leg and fractures were also reported in the post-mortem report.
All accused arrested
The three defendants have been arrested. Police, updated on Saturday that they will file an appeal in the fast-track court, taking into account the case’s sensitivity. On Thursday, a delegation from the National Commission for Women (NCW) met with the victim’s family members.
