According to open-ended information, in October 2001, Sharma joined Narendra Modi as Secretary and gained his confidence during the Vibrant Gujarat campaign, during which he introduced investment to the state.
After the latter took over as Prime Minister, Sharma also joined Modi and continued to be affiliated with PMO until 2020. In April 2020, he retired as MSME secretary.
Sharma, a resident of Mul in Mau district, belongs to the caste of Bhumihar. On January 28, the state is scheduled to experience MLC polls for 12 seats. The last nominating date for the polls is 18 January. Though there are speculations that Sharma will be nominated for the candidacy of the MLC, no official comment has been made by the BJP on the same matter.
