Every year on March 20, the International Day of Happiness is observed around the world to highlight the importance of happiness in people’s daily lives. This year’s theme for International Day of Happiness is “Happiness For Everyone, Forever,” implying the importance of happiness for people all over the world. Happiness is regarded as the most significant need in every human’s life, and it is related to human well-being.
The day’s history
The International Day of Happiness was first observed by the United Nations in 2013, but a resolution to that effect was passed on July 12, 2012. Bhutan was the first to propose this resolution, emphasising the importance of national happiness over national income since the early 1970s, resulting in the adoption of the Gross National Happiness over Gross National Product concept.
The day also seeks to emphasise the importance of happiness in the formulation of public policy goals, as happiness is inextricably linked to inclusive economic growth, which leads to long-term prosperity and overall well-being for all people.
It’s springtime, and Holi is just around the corner, so it’s time for the International Day Of Happiness in 2021. What better time to commemorate the International Day of Happiness than today? Every year on March 20, a day devoted to happiness is observed. The International Day of Happiness was founded by the United Nations to “recognise the importance of happiness in people’s lives all over the world.” According to the United Nations’ World Happiness Report released last year, Helsinki, Finland’s capital, is the happiest city on the planet. On International Day of Happiness, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to remind each other that we’re never alone.
