On Monday, a U.S. appeals court challenged a government attorney about the attempts of the Trump administration to bar Americans from accessing Chinese-owned TikTok from U.S. app stores.
Oh. U.S. On Sept. 27, District Judge Carl Nichols in Washington blocked the order from the Commerce Department hours before new downloads of the quick video-sharing app were banned.
The ban would have forced Apple Inc and Google Alphabet to delete the app from their stores, stopping new users from installing it.
With a central government claim about whether a prior case is valid, two of the judges expressed skepticism.

On Dec. 4, the Trump administration decided not to approve a new extension of an order requiring the firm to divest TikTok’s U.S. assets to TikTok-owner ByteDance. TikTok’s counsel, Beth Brinkmann, said there were “ongoing talks” during the court hearing about the fate of the software.
Judge Nichols separately issued a preliminary injunction on Dec. 7 that blocked the U.S. Department of Commerce from enforcing limits on TikTok that would have essentially prohibited its use in the United States.
In a suit filed by ByteDance after U.S. Nichols released an order The same restrictions scheduled to take effect on Nov. 12 were blocked by District Court Judge Wendy Beetlestone in Pennsylvania earlier.
The app store ban was also blocked by Beetles tone. Tentatively is a special appeals court in Philadelphia.
