Report by Tanya Singh:
There never goes a day when news about Kangana Ranaut creates headlines. In 2020, veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut. On 3 November, Akhtar filed a criminal complaint against Ranaut for making defamatory statements against him.
The warrant was issued by Andheri metropolitan magistrate after the actor failed to appear in court despite being summoned, reported LiveLaw. Akhtar, in his complaint, had alleged that Ranaut had made defamatory comments against him in an interview, by dragging his name while referring to a “coterie” existing in Bollywood, following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020.
In the last hearing, Akhtar’s lawyer told the court that Kangana had not responded to the notice, asking him to be present before the police for recording her statement. The court had then issued summons to the actor on February 1 while posting the matter for hearing on March 1. A complaint was registered under Sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code.
